Integrating Hazard Mitigation into Local Planning

The major question haunting hazard mitigation planning in recent years has been how best to move beyond the serious disconnect that often exists between such planning and other local planning activities. The APA Hazards Planning Research Center, in conjunction with FEMA, is undertaking a 30-month study of best practices in integrating hazard mitigation into all forms of local plan making and planning activities. This study will culminate in a Planning Advisory Service Report.

Thank you for your interest in this project. Please take a few minutes to tell us about hazard mitigation planning in your community by completing this short questionnaire. These questions have been designed to serve two related objectives:

*provide us with an overview of current hazard mitigation planning practice.

*serve as a guide for additional information we would like to collect from you on those aspects of planning practice you have highlighted in your community.

This survey will take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. At the end of the questionnaire is information on how to contact us, both by mail and electronically. We are grateful for any pertinent planning documents you can send us addressing hazard mitigation in your community.

As a reward for your participation, you will be entered into a drawing to receive the grand prize –an iPod Nano – or one of ten $25 gift certificates from APA’s PlanningBooks.com.
